30 Years Wedding Anniversary
Hosting a Wedding Anniversary Party: Two Questions?
My parents will be celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary later this year. As their only child, I know they would appreciate a small family gathering to mark the occasion. Five years ago, at their 25th, I was still in college and unable to provide any sort of party; now I have some money to dispose of, but not nearly enough to outright host their few sisters, parents, neices, nephews, and friends.
I would very much like to have a small gathering at the park, and to ask my aunts to each bring a dish to pass. I hate the idea of a “potluck” and feel deep down that I should be able to provide more financially, but I simply don’t have the money. What do you think?
Also, their anniversary falls two weeks after my cousin’s wedding. Is it innappropriate to have this party so close to the wedding, or, being family, will the few people attending mind terribly attending two events so close together? Will the newly married couple view is as an intrusion?
I think throwing a party would be a great idea for your parents! Perhaps you could tell your relatives “hey we should throw a party for my parents.”…. This might work to make them feel included and like they are helping celebrate. I don’t know of anyone who doesn’t like a party or potluck(too much food!)
Having the party 2 weeks after would be good. I got married last September and there were so many family around for that so my aunt hosted a few parties and it was a long time of fun! I wouldn’t view it as an intrusion, and I was a total bridezilla!
